A 28-year old man from Bulawayo's Burombo Flats allegedly broke into a house in Queenspark West, stabbed and raped the owner before demanding money from her, a court heard Tuesday.

Thabani Tshuma pleaded not guilty to the charges of unlawful entry, rape and robbery before a Bulawayo Regional Magistrate Sikhumbuzo Nyathi.

According to the state outline, on September 16, 2013 at around 2am, Tshuma went to the victim's house (name withheld) and opened an unlocked dining room door to gain entry.

He proceeded to the bedroom where the complainant was sleeping. When she suddenly woke up, complainant realised that Tshuma was standing by her bedside.

The complainant screamed at the top of her voice and Tshuma dived onto the bed and covered her mouth with a cloth to muffle her screams.

He allegedly stabbed her with a knife once on the arm and threatened to kill her if she made any further noise.

Tshuma allegedly used his knife to cut her underwear and raped her.

After the act, it is alleged that he demanded money from her and when the complainant attempted to move the duvet covering her face, she was stabbed once again on the same arm.

The complainant pointed to where the money was and Tshuma discovered that there was $34.

He demanded for more money and when the woman told him she did not have any, Tshuma stabbed her for the third time on the same arm.

Tshuma then took two suitcases with clothes and two cellphones and proceeded to the dining room where he stole an amplifier before fleeing.

He was arrested by police in the city and the stolen goods were recovered.
