Highlanders bad boy Mthulisi Maphosa was yesterday arrested for allegedly assaulting his ex-girlfriend when he saw her with her new boyfriend in Mpopoma.
A source close to investigations told reporters that the gifted midfielder assaulted and seriously injured his ex-girlfriend, only identified as Nobuhle, after he found her with another man at her home in Mpopoma.
He allegedly went berserk and destroyed a precast wall at the house while also damaging the unnamed man's Samsung S4 cellphone.
Maphosa, 25, was yesterday held at Western Commonage police station while family members made frantic efforts to secure his release.
He is not a stranger to police holding cells as he was arrested in October 2011, accused of stabbing a soldier following a brawl at a social soccer match in Mpopoma. He was charged with attempted murder but the charges were withdrawn before plea in July last year. This was after the complainant, Isaac Mazambane opted for an out-of-court settlement.
In November last year he ran riot and beat up patrons at Esibayeni Bar in Matshobana suburb after a brawl with bouncers who had prevented him from entering wearing a hat.
Witnesses said Maphosa arrived at the bar after 11pm and would not have it when bouncers ordered him to remove his hat.
During the scuffle, Maphosa allegedly snatched a baton from one of the security guards and started assaulting people.
