ZIMBABWE'S fixed phone operator and Internet Access Provider TelOne in partnership with the National University of Science and Technology, will soon offer a BSC Honours degree in Telecommunications Engineering at its Centre for Learning.

TelOne corporate communications manager Ms Melody Harry said the partnership is expected to enhance the credibility of the institution.

"TelOne is finalising modalities to establishing a partnership with NUST which will see the centre running a Telecommunications Engineering degree programme under an affiliate arrangement with NUST" she said.

She added that the addition of a degree programme will bolster the curriculum at the centre and will turn it into a premier ICT and telecommunications training institution. The centre, she said, was also in the process of broadening its training focus to become a centre for excellence in both ICT and other soft skills training.

"It is this new thrust which has seen TelOne make inroads to establish various partnerships to enhance its training delivery to ensure provisioning of relevant and quality skills for industry and the Zimbabwe economy," she said.

A number of examining bodies including the Institute of People Management of Zimbabwe and Higher Education Examination Council have already entered into partnerships with the TelOne Centre for Learning.

TelOne managing director Mrs Chipo

Mtasa said the Centre for Learning was responsible for upgrades in the telecommunications and telemedia sectors.

"We hope to be offering more degrees through our partnership with the National University of Science and Technology especially their electronic department," Mrs Mtasa said.

This programme is expected to start once all modalities and approvals are in place. Enrolment is expected any time during this year soon after the finalisation of the MOU.
