A TEACHER at Bulawayo's Montrose Girls High School yesterday dragged a colleague who was the maid of honour at her wedding to court accusing her of snatching her husband.
Judith Ngulube allegedly confronted her workmate Alice Chiriya at her Nkulumane home on Valentine's Day Eve and assaulted her for four hours, shouting she had snatched her husband.
The court heard the two teachers brawled over the issue at school and had to be restrained by other teachers.
Ngulube told magistrate Evelyn Mashavakure that she needed a peace order against Chiriya.
She said Chiriya was harassing her and having an affair with her husband.
Ngulube said Chiriya was her best friend and maid of honour at her wedding in December last year.
She said their friendship broke down when she discovered Chiriya was having a love affair with her husband, soon after the wedding.
Ngulube said she became suspicious when she heard Chiriya and her husband talking on the phone.
"Your worship, when I confronted her, she told me that it wasn't her problem that I didn't know how to treat my husband. She said I wasted my time and money on wedding preparations and I should be saving money for divorce," said Ngulube.
"I went home, talked to my husband and he promised to cut ties with her. Now she is harassing me in front of our workmates and pupils telling me that we're sharing my husband."
Chiriya denied the allegations saying they were frivolous accusations.
She said Ngulube was lying.
"Your Worship, I told her as my friend that her husband proposed love to me. I told her I was never going to betray her. She told me that she was born and bred in Njube and has friends who can make me disappear from the face of the earth."
"She came to my house at around 11PM and assaulted me with a stick that she had hidden under her jacket, until it broke into pieces. She took off her wedge shoe and continued to assault me until 3 in the morning," said Chiriya.
"I sustained a swollen mouth and had back pains. She did that on the 13th and 14th of February. I couldn't fight back because as you can see, she is physically stronger than me," Chiriya said.
Ngulube shot back: "If I beat you up for two days you wouldn't be like this.
"If I wanted to hit you I was going to thrash you severely because I was angry with you."
Magistrate Mashavakure granted a binding peace order, which compels the two to keep away from each other.
