A BULAWAYO man is fighting for his life at Mpilo Central Hospital's intensive care unit after a man savagely attacked him for no apparent reason, a court heard yesterday.
The unidentified man was allegedly assaulted by Mthokozisi, 26, of Cowdray Park suburd on Sunday at around 5PM.
Prosecuting, Mufaro Mageza said police are yet to establish the man's name, age and where he stays due to his comatose state.
"Since the man is in a coma it's difficult to establish his full details and what exactly transpired.
"The police are yet to identify his next of kin and more will be revealed when the man regains consciousness," said Mageza.
He said Mkandla claims that he does not know the man and he is failing to assist the investigating officers with information.
Mkandla was not asked to plead when he appeared before Provincial magistrate Willard Maphios Moyo facing an assault charge.
He was remanded in custody to May 20.
Last month, two teenagers allegedly assaulted an 18-year-old boy with bricks on the head and chest several times until he lost consciousness in a row over beer.
They also robbed him of his two cell phones and a T-shirt he was wearing soon after he fainted.
The teenagers, 16 and 17, assaulted Lucky Dube while at a friend's birthday party in Old Lobengula accusing him of being boastful of beer which was not his.
Dube was rushed to Mpilo Central Hospital where he gained consciousness and discovered that his belongings were missing.
The two were ordered to perform 240hours of community service at Mawaba Primary School in Lobengula and Magwegwe Primary School.
