A BUHERA man who unleashed reign of terror in Murambinda, waylaying men whom he forcibly sodomised and earned himself 15 years behind bars has been slapped with another 18-year-jail term after he was found guilty of doing the same to a prison inmate.
Manica Post reported that Rusape regional magistrate, Livingstone Chipadza found Panganai Tavangwena (29) guilty and sentenced him to 15 years behind bars. However, the magistrate added another three years which were suspended on condition of good behaviour in 2014 when the convict was found guilty of the same offence then.
Tirivanhu Mutyasira prosecuted.
Allegations are that on February 25 at around 11pm, the complainant was sleeping next to the accused and Tavawengwa removed his pair of shorts and skin tight.
He sodomised him while he was fast asleep. The complainant later woke up after feeling some pain. He grabbed the accused person's private parts.
The complainant raised alarm resulting in other inmates waking up
The accused tried to play down the case, but the complainant started crying resulting in prison officers coming to investigate.
He was arrested and charged.
Tavangwena pleaded not guilty, saying the complainant was sodomised by another inmate not him, but the complainant was adamant that he was the culprit.
Chipadza found him guilty as charged.
During his reign of terror about two years ago, men in Murambinda had sleepless nights as Tavangwena, who dressed a as a woman, broke into homes at night and raped them.
The victims told the police that he bit them on their backs and chests before raping them in a modus operandi many believed was linked to black magic.
However, he was found guilty by the same regional magistrate in July last year after he was convicted of sodomising an 18-year-old teenager.
Although he denied the charges, Tavangwena was convicted by Chipadza after the State led overwhelming evidence against him.
Allegations were that on August 31, 2014, Tavangwena went to Mwerihari River and found the teenager doing some laundry.
He grabbed the teenager from the back and sodomised him. He tried to scream for help but no one heard his cries.
Chipadza slapped him with a 15-year jail term, three of which were suspended on condition of good behaviour.
