Two Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Mutare traffic police officers were arrested together with a 32-year-old Dangamvura man by an anti-corruption team at Fashu roadblock site along Mutare - Chimanimani highway on 5 January 2017.

Sources familiar with the developments allege that constable Murambiwa, constable Chagonda and Ephrage Muererwa (32) were arrested after being found in possession of $459 emanating from bribes.

An anti-corruption team comprising of top rank cops and police intelligence approached Fashu roadblock after receiving a tip off on their corrupt activities.

When they arrived they saw Muererwa seated on a rock 30 metres away from the roadblock site and the team confronted him before searching him.

Muererwa is a foreman at Platonic commuter omnibuses, he was questioned on his presence at the roadblock and said he had come to pay $40 for his company kombi to pass freely on the block.

He also stated that he was then engaged by the two cops to collect bribes from commuters on their behalf and he agreed.

The team searched Muererwa and found him with US$459, 00 which he said were proceeds from the bribery transactions.

The three suspects were taken to Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Mutare with the cash as an exhibit for further investigations.

Cases of corruption within the force are on the increase and the minister for Home Affairs Ignitious Chombo is on record saying corrupt officers will be dealt with harshly.
