A political commentator Pedzisai Ruhanya has insinuated that Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa who is being touted as the successor of President Robert Mugabe has failed to impress his colleagues in the party and the nation that he can take over like South Africa's Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma whom her ex-husband Jacob Zuma want to succeed him.

Mnangagwa has been for a long time seem as the most suitable candidate to take over from Mugabe but he is currently facing serious resistance from members of his party named the G40 who are angling for first lady Grace Mugabe taking over from her 93-year-old husband.

"Mnangagwa of Zimbabwe like Dlamini-Zuma of South Africa has failed to ignite even mediocre spontaneous enthusiasm at the carefully selected events where he has spoken," Ruhanya said.

"These two mediocre establishment leaders are not the best these two countries require post-Mugabe and Zuma respectively. Zimbabwe and South Africa deserve better. Cyril Ramaphosa deserves a chance in South Africa. In my motherland, Zimbabwe as Gramsci says, the old is dying and the new cannot be born and in this interregnum, a great variety of morbid symptoms appear."
