Man jailed after duping people via Ecocash

A 21-Year -Old Mbire man pleaded guilty to 2 counts of  fraud and has been sentenced to 36 months in prison by Guruve magistrate Shingirai Mutiro.

Evans Njoromore was convicted after full trial.

The court heard that on 19 May this year, Njorome duped a kombi driver - Sebastian Charaika - into sending him $40 via Ecocash purporting to be an MDC T official Basilia Majaya who is also a businesswoman in Mahuhwe.

He further acted unlawfully by defrauding Daniel Mhako with the same trick and he duped him $987.

The prosecutor Mrs Venesencia Musiiwa told the court that Njoromore's shenanigans came to light when the two duped people stormed Majaya complex demanding their dues.

Mrs Majaya did not hesitate to file a report leading to the suspect's arrest.

In ruling the magistrate said ,"The accused must be made to appreciate that crime does not pay .

"He must not be afforded the chance to enjoy the fruits of his criminal acts.

"The manner in which the accused committed the offence clearly shows that it was premeditated that the result of careful planning.

"Usually courts are reluctant to send first offenders to prison but where first offenders commit serious crime like in the present matter they will be imprisoned. "
