MARRIED cheats were, last Friday, involved in a fatal accident in Witbank in Durban, South Africa during one of their trips out of the country.
Chamunorwa Hombe and Shelter Mugauri, 32, whose affair had become an open secret in the community died after the haulage truck they were travelling in plunged down a steep slope into a gorge.
There are two funeral gatherings in the same street (Chisungo Street) with one grouping for Chamunorwa and a stone throw away another for Shelter.
Shelter, who was commonly known as Mai Kimberly in the neighbourhood, is said to have told her husband that Chamunorwa was her cousin yet they were in love.
Mai Kimberley is said to have left home with their household property to stay at her parent's house which was closer to her boyfriend's place while Chamunorwa sent his wife packing so that he could have more time with Mai Kimberly – a mother of three.
Mai Kimberley's husband Marufu Nhachi, 34, said he was surprised that Mai Kimberley had died while accompanying her boyfriend to South Africa.
"I was surprised to receive calls from friends and some sympathisers that Mai Kimberley had died in the company of her boyfriend.
"Chamunorwa used to come to our place of residence and I never suspected anything as their parents' houses are in the same street.
"People started telling me that the two were having an affair and Mai Kimberley once left home vanakirwa nechikomba," said Marufu.
Marufu said his in-laws were still to officially tell him of his wife's death.
"I am still waiting for them to tell me that Mai Kimberley is no more. I went to her parents' place and questioned Mai Kimberley's aunt and mother who were egg-faced.
"Imagine a married woman running away from home only to die in the company of a boyfriend. Our eldest child is 12 years old while the youngest is five years old; the other one is in Grade 6," said Marufu.
Added Marufu; "Mai Kimberley sold some of our household property and when I got some commission for selling a car I sent the money to her as I continued with my daily business but only to be surprised to get to know that she had left while I was away.
"She left just one blanket and my clothes as she rushed to be with her boyfriend."
He said when he tried talking to Mai Kimberley on why she had left home, he got a response that he had been cursed not to prosper.
"Mai Kimberley told me that I was cursed and would die poor. It is unfortunate that she died first. That is curse now. Back to sender.
"Chamunorwa and my wife would travel to Congo and South Africa. Mai Kim would always accompany Chamu on his trips," said Marufu.
Mai Kimberley's family could neither confirm nor deny the illicit love affair.
"I can't confirm their love affair because she didn't tell us about their relationship.
"What I only know is that he helped us transporting our goods from South Africa and we used to call him uncle.
"There were three people in the truck so we can't say anga ane chikomba. All three people who were in the truck died and we have no exact information.
"Also Shelly was no longer staying with Marufu and we don't want to see him again here.
"He is just causing confusion and we are mourning the death of our daughter.
"You can write what you want and we are not at liberty to talk to you.
"We have nothing to say to you and what I have told you is enough," said Shelter's close relative.
Chamunorwa's relative, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the two were in love.
"They were madly in love and Chamu was in a habit of chasing his wife away to have quality time na Mai Kimberly.
"They would tell people that they are related when in fact they were cheating on their spouses," said the close relative.
The lorry is said to have been side swiped by a Isuzu twin cab and the driver lost control resulting in the lorry overturning killing all three occupants on the spot.
