Former Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai is still in a critical condition in South Africa, party security officials have disclosed, a development that saw right hand-woman, Theresa Makone abruptly flying to South Africa to be by his side.

A member of Tsvangirai' s security team said the opposition leader's condition was very bad. It is said he is as reported, "struggling to speak" – what caused alarm and made Makone to fly out to Johannesburg where he is at the Wits Gordon Medical Centre.

It has also emerged the opposition party has been hard hit by serious factional battles as party bigwigs position themselves to succeed Tsvangirai. Earlier on at the weekend both spokesman Luke Tamborinyoka and Secretary General Douglas Mwonzora had attempted fighting off the rumours with Mwonzora saying,

"Malicious rumours are being spread that President Tsvangirai is dead. This is false. The President is alive and well. In fact the President is eating by himself. Our Treasurer General Theresa Makone is in South Africa with Mai Elizabeth Tsvangirai and has advised that President is well."

But an aide last night told reporters that "the truth is mudhara is unwell but doctors are trying their best to assist him," said a member of Tsvangirai' s security team.
