A new member of the Johanne Masowe sect has come under fire for allegedly impregnating his OWN daughter for suspected ritual purposes.
The father of nine, Madzibaba Ndawi, 57, of Motsi Village under Headman Gilbert Munyawiri in Domboshava, has sent tongues wagging in the village after he allegedly twice impregnated his daughter Anna, 22.
According to sources, Anna had a still-birth from the first pregnancy while this time around she is believed to have killed the child immediately after giving birth.
And it now appears Madzibaba Clever is now in hot water after he defied Headman Munyawiri's call to appear before the village court yesterday. Villagers who spoke to H-Metro were demanding an explanation from Madzibaba Clever on the whereabouts of Anna's child.
"Madzibaba Clever must tell us where Anna's baby is because we have been seeing her heavily pregnant but we don't know what happened to the pregnancy," said one of the villagers.
"We suspect the baby was killed shortly after birth because their incestuous relationship had become the talk of the village.
"We have since alerted the police by dropping letters in their suggestion box but nothing has been done to bring this culprit to book.
"To our surprise, Anna's mother is also supporting this bizarre act and she does not want to take action," added the villager.
Anna's mother Ferasia Muchena, 48, refuted the allegations claiming that she always moves around with her daughter. "I do not know where villagers are getting these allegations from because I am always with my daughter even kumaricho. As we speak, we are poor and we can't afford to pay so much to their court because the family will starve," said Ferasia.
"We are church members and if my husband wanted another wife he could have chosen among church members.
"Whoever took the case to the headman is the one we want to know because from the story the complainants could have been either me or Anna," said Ferasia. Anna CONFIRMED that she has clashed with villagers over the issue.
"What the people are saying is troubling me because I know the person who was responsible for the pregnancy," said Anna.
"My boyfriend named Francis Madzingira from Masvingo is the one responsible for the baby who died after two weeks in 2010.
"After discovering that I was pregnant I looked for Francis from where he was working as a shop keeper at (Domboshava) Showgrounds and I couldn't locate him until today," said Anna.
Anna was not given a chance to answer about the second pregnancy as Madzibaba Clever interjected saying she never had a second pregnancy.
"She never had a second pregnancy it was only the first incident the villagers are talking about. "The villagers are after my life and I will never visit their court until they tell me who the complainant in this matter is.
"It is true that people are saying I am the one responsible for my daughter's pregnancy but I want to know the complainant first.
"If they send another person summoning me to their court, I will take it to the police for defamation of character after all I can not let my family starve after paying money to their court.
"We have queries on how the headman handles his cases especially court cases and even some of his verdicts. I invited other church members yesterday (Saturday) as I seek guidance from God. My family is failing to find peace because of that story and I have been moving around with Anna after she had a problem with her bladder.
"My business deteriorated after people started spreading these falsehoods. As we speak, Anna's sister has left home after these allegations arose and she left her child with us today.
"Most of these people spreading this, don't like our church doctrine and we had prayed over that issue," said Clever. When H-Metro visited Headman Munyawiri's place, he was busy hearing village cases and it is the same court Madzibaba Clever was supposed to appear.
"You can't see headman for he is busy today hearing cases and we are also expecting Madzibaba Clever to appear over a case of incest. Clever's case was supposed to be heard by 9am but up to now we heard three cases and he is not yet around," said one of the headman's aides.
Madzibaba Clever said he stopped his daughter from eloping to Francis fearing that she would be starved.
