A 42-YEAR-OLD Harare man yesterday appeared at the Harare Magistrates' Court facing extortion allegations after he misrepresented to the complainant that he was a member of the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc) and needed money to cover his illegal land deals involving former Local Government minister Saviour Kasukuwere.
Dentist Chimanga was not asked to plead when he appeared before magistrate Josephine Sande, who remanded him to April 16 on $100 bail.
It is the State's case that on November 22 last year, Chimanga approached the complainant, Lilian Chitanga at her premises and purported to be a Zacc investigator.
The accused claimed to have come to arrest the complainant for selling residential stands on behalf Kasukuwere. Chimanga allegedly then called his two accomplices who are still at large to join him.
It is alleged Chimanga allegedly told Chitanga that they were under instruction to impound all her vehicles and money. The trio later force-marched Chitanga into her house and searched for cash and took $100.
The State alleges the trio took three mobile phones belonging to Chitanga, Mavis Mutumwa and Rutendo Mhofu. They force-marched Chitanga and her husband Lucky Marowa to their vehicle which was parked 100 metres away while threatening them.
It is alleged they drove to Harare central business district where Chitanga was ordered to make a bank transfer of $5 000 to them and were also given another $3 500 by a relative.
Chimanga was arrested after he was spotted by the witnesses.
Ropafadzo Botsh appeared for the State.
