The Medicines Control Authority of Zimbabwe has issued a public alert recalling a batch of Citro Soda sachets following the detection of potential foreign material contamination during a manufacturing inspection in South Africa.

In a circular dated March 23, 2026, the authority said the recall affects Citric Acid/Sodium Citrate/Bicarbonate/Tartaric Acid 702/613/171/858mg (Citro Soda sachets), batch number C134584, manufactured by Adcock Ingram Ltd in Clayville.

The issue was identified after an inspection by the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority at the manufacturing facility.

"The reported batch of Citro Soda is being recalled following the identification of potential foreign material contamination," the authority said, warning that compromised product quality could pose potential risks to patients.

MCAZ has directed all licensed wholesalers, pharmacies, public and private clinics, and hospitals to immediately quarantine any affected stock and cooperate fully with the manufacturer and distributors during the recall process.

Members of the public who may have purchased the affected batch have been advised to stop using the product and return it to the pharmacy where it was obtained.
