Zanu-PF has celebrated the defeat of French president Nicholas Sarkozy at the country's recent elections and said Zimbabwe should immediately seek to establish diplomatic ties with the new government headed by Socialist, Francois Hollande.

Speaking to State Television on Monday night, Zanu-PF apologist and former Ambassador Chris Mutsvangwa said of Sarkozy, "he was one of the worst leaders Europe ever had and Africa will never remember him for anything good. He was a bad man for Africa."

University of Zimbabwe History Lecturer and Kenneth Manungo said, "the Francois Hollande era should be an opportunity for re-engagement."

Manungo accused Sarkozy of having been instrumental in the murder of former Libyan dictator, Colonel Muammar Gaddafi, "with media reports revealing that the former French president received US$50 million for his campaign in 2007 from the man he later murdered."

Manungo added "He was deceitful and his gun-toting diplomacy was the worst example of leadership."
