Last weekend 46 activists in Harare were arrested by police for
discussing the North Africa street revolutions and viewing videos of the
uprisings. The 46 activists have now been charged with treason - a
charge punishable by death - and accused of plotting a revolution.
Several of them have testified that they were beaten and tortured in
police custody.
In contrast ZANU PF loyalists are virtually free to express themselves. War veterans' leader Jabulani Sibanda is said to have been organising meetings, chanting hate slogans and violating people who do not support ZANU-Pf in Masvingo.
Sibanda has been roaming Masvingo chanting hate slogans towards other parties and the Zimbabwe republic police have done nothing about it.
Just this week the Gutu Senator Empire Makamure (MDC-T) told Parliament that the activities of war veteran and Zanu PF activist Jabulani Sibanda in Masvingo should never be tolerated and should be considered as violence.
"We have a problem in our district of a man called Jabulani Sibanda who roams the district at will, organising meetings attended by people and in some cases headmen and even chiefs speak ill about other political parties, shouting slogans against others.
"That is a form of violence being perpetrated by this man in our district and the police allow him to go scot-free," said Makamure.
