Africa Green Expo on waste management

The Africa Green Expo and Energy Conference stakeholders had the opportunity to embark on waste transfer tours in Harare recently to view and assess the success stories being championed by local youth-led initiatives on waste management and recycling.
A high powered delegation comprising of United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) representatives and various stakeholders in the environment fraternity gathered in Epworth where Zimbabwe Sunshine Group extended another waste transfer station.
The official visit turned out to be an eye opener for delegates at the Africa Green Expo and Energy Conference as they momentarily convened a dialogue session discussing areas of importance.
Speaking during the field visit, Zimbabwe Sunshine Group (ZSG) Director Ronny Mbaisa reiterated on the need of striking collaborations among stakeholders in various economic green initiatives in order to record the success stories of a circular economy. In the past 10 years, there are a number of waste management initiatives taking place in various communities without being accounted.
"This is our 10th Edition of Africa Green Expo and Energy Conference, we thought it would be prudent for stakeholders to have a glimpse of what is taking place in various communities as far as waste management and recycling is concerned. By doing so, it will then inform the varying stakeholders the obtaining picture on ground. There are a number of initiatives being conducted different communities but could be lacking collaboration and attention of the key stakeholders who are relevant in this subject topic," he said.
Circular economy continues to take centre stage with the potential to create green jobs in various economies.
The waste transfer station constructed by Zimbabwe Sunshine Group in Epworth has positively transformed the social livelihoods of the surrounding community. The waste transfer station also records a success story of land reclamation as it is constructed in the midst of a heavily degraded area.
