Illegal miner dies in a mine shaft

A 45-year old Bindura man was trapped to death in a 15 metre deep mine shaft while illegally prospecting for gold on Saturday.
Mashonaland Central Police Spokesperson Inspector Milton Mundembe told Bulawayo24.com that Bigboy Vengesai of Makusha area died on the spot at Kitsi Yatota.
"He was panning for gold in a shaft which is approximately 15m deep when a massive lump of soil fell on him.
Other illegal panners escaped unhurt and Pachanewe Mwiwe (49) the deceased's wife made a report at Bindura Central," he said.
Members of the public are urged to respect the country's laws and formalise their mining operations in order to work in safe environments.
