The Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has unequivocally stated its refusal to accept President Emmerson Mnangagwa's decision to call for by-elections in 15 constituencies from which its members were removed through the actions of the enigmatic Sengezo Tshabangu.
Mnangagwa has designated December 9 as the date for these by-elections, primarily focusing on constituencies in Matabeleland that were subject to Tshabangu's sensational recalls.
Despite objections from CCC President Nelson Chamisa and an impending High Court application, the nomination court is scheduled to convene on November 7 to receive candidates' submissions.
Ostallos Siziba, representing the CCC, remarked, "The proclamation of these by-elections, involving disputed and artificial vacancies engineered by Zanu-PF through intermediaries, has laid bare Mnangagwa's intentions to undermine and erode the genuine opposition following his defeat in the recent election. The Citizens' Movement will not endorse this!"
The turmoil initiated by Tshabangu led to Speaker of Parliament Jacob Mudenda notifying the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) of these vacancies.
Additionally, the Bulawayo City Council has received notice of the recall of 12 CCC Councillors in the country's second-largest city.
Tshabangu asserts that he serves as the Interim Secretary General of the opposition party and possesses the authority to withdraw members who no longer align with their cause.
