ZIMPHAC holds youth seminar on Social Media influence

Zimbabwe Partner Help A Child last weekend held a seminar to educate the youth on leadership, drug abuse and correct use of social media.
ZIMPHAC Chairperson Reverend Umnqobi Moyo said they look at the lives of the youth in Zimbabwe and seek to empower them with life knowledge.
"We have representatives from each school a male and a female, to hear on both sides, we talk about the issues affecting contemporary society the youths live in, this includes drug abuse, bullying and vuzu parties," said Moyo.
Moyo said social media is now playing a crucial role in influencing the lives of the youth and they do not realise that media has some pros and cons.
He said young people listen to social media more than their parents these days.
"Youths are now listening to google, TikTok, and television, which is now becoming the greatest teacher of their lives, which is now bombing these negative thoughts into their minds," said Moyo.
Moyo said Social Media is polluting young people's life and result to sucides.
He said drug abuse is now becoming a major problem in the lives of the youths which neeyouth, be dealt with.
"Social media still pulls many of the youths into taking drugs and hence we should limit its usage," said Moyo.
Bulawayo coordinator for ZIMPHAC, Meluleki Mangena said they work together to get the problems solved and were a partnership with organisations like Lobels and Bakers Inn.
ZIMPHAC vice President, Ruvarashe Chikore said the organisation is a students forum.
"ZIMPHAC aims to help the less privileged and helps to voice out for those who are voiceless. We also move with the theme of gender equality," said Chikore.
National chairperson of ZIMPHAC, Thembelihle Mnkandla, said the seminar had prefects from different schools so that they hear different problems along with their views.
"We had prefects from different schools; this helps the organisation hear every view so that we see how we can move forward," said Mnkandla
