Controversial tenderprenuer Wicknell Chivayo has extended his largesse to two iconic figures in Zimbabwean football, gifting football legend Moses "Bambo" Chunga and veteran ZBC presenter Charles "CNN" Mabika with brand new 2024 Toyota Fortuners. The gifts, which come just days after Chivayo presented similar cars to musicians Leonard Karikoga Zhakata, Olivia Charamba, and Mechanic Manyeruke, are being hailed as a tribute to their exceptional contributions to the sport.
Chivayo, whose wealth remains shrouded in mystery, expressed admiration for both Chunga and Mabika, calling them "legends" and "personal heroes." He acknowledged their immense impact on Zimbabwean football, praising their unwavering dedication and unmatched talent. The businessman's public statement revealed his deep respect for both men, who he says have inspired millions of football fans across Zimbabwe.
"I am turning the spotlight onto two phenomenal individuals that I respect, who are LEGENDS in Zimbabwean football, my personal HEROES, and as well my good old FRIENDS," Chivayo said.
Chivayo was effusive in his praise for Chunga, highlighting the footballer's trailblazing career, which saw him make history with a debut in Belgium, becoming one of the first Zimbabwean players to showcase his skills on the international stage. Chivayo described Chunga's time at Dynamos Football Club, the "Glamour Boys," as a period that brought "glamour and style" to the team. He further emphasized Chunga's extraordinary skills, calling him a "maestro" who "redefined" football in Zimbabwe.
"His creativity, vision, and technical skill were in a league of their own. Chunga didn't just play football, he REDEFINED it and his legacy is worth an appropriate recognition," said Chivayo.
Chivayo also lauded Mabika, the long-time football commentator known for his distinctive and vibrant style of broadcasting. He credited Mabika's commentary with turning even the most ordinary match into a "grand spectacle," helping unite people from all walks of life through the magic of sport. Chivayo recalled how, as a young boy in Chitungwiza, he would imitate Mabika's iconic voice while playing football in the streets.
"His unmatched commentary and encyclopaedic knowledge of the sport has made him a living legend. CNN's commentary turned even the simplest match into a GRAND SPECTACLE," Chivayo said.
In his tribute, Chivayo explained that the gifts were his way of saying "thank you" to Chunga and Mabika for their invaluable contributions to the sport, which have left a lasting legacy. He invited the two legends to pick up their brand new cars from Faramatsi Motors at the Club Chambers showroom in Harare.
"On account of their prestigious contribution to Zimbabwean football, I wish to say a big congratulations to MOSES 'BAMBO' CHUNGA and CHARLES 'CNN' MABIKA. Your two brand spanking new 2024 Toyota Fortuner F24A 2.4D 4×4 Automatics are ready for collection," Chivayo announced, adding that he had spent USD 151,000 on the gifts, considering them a small gesture of appreciation for the pair's contribution to the sport.
Chivayo concluded his message with a heartfelt note of gratitude: "This is my small gesture of saying THANK YOU for inspiring not just ME but an ENTIRE nation of football lovers. THANK YOU for turning every goal, every tackle, and every victory into unforgettable moments of pure magic. LEGENDS like you deserve nothing less than LEGENDARY RECOGNITION."
The gifts are seen as a public recognition of the enduring impact of Chunga and Mabika, who have both played pivotal roles in shaping Zimbabwean football and have inspired generations of players and fans.
