A shocking scandal has rocked the Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG) church after a man from Plumtree, Matabeleland South, accused his wife and a senior church leader of an extramarital affair that he says has torn apart his marriage.
The man, identified only as Mr. Chiwawa, has called on Prophet Shepherd Bushiri, founder of the ECG church, to intervene and take disciplinary action against his wife and her alleged lover, Alfos Bukosibethu Nyathi, a prominent church leader.
Chiwawa alleges that his wife began an affair with Nyathi shortly after their formal marriage in 2022. He claims the relationship, which allegedly began while he was working abroad, has caused irreparable harm to their union.
Chiwawa said he discovered the infidelity while preparing immigration documents for his wife to join him in the United Kingdom. According to him, his wife confessed to the affair to a local church pastor identified as Samuriwo, based in Plumtree. However, Chiwawa alleges that the church failed to take any action following the confession, leaving him feeling betrayed by an institution he trusted.
"My wife and I have been together since 2010, and we formalized our marriage in 2022. I trusted her and the church leadership, but this betrayal has shattered my faith," Chiwawa said.
He further accused Kagande and Nyathi of engaging in unprotected sexual relations on multiple occasions during his absence.
The allegations have sent shockwaves through the local congregation, with some members expressing concerns about the church's handling of the matter. Critics argue that the church's failure to address the accusations undermines its moral authority and accountability to its members.
Chiwawa's plea to Prophet Bushiri highlights his desperation for justice and a resolution to the matter.
"I call upon Prophet Bushiri to intervene and take disciplinary action. This situation has not only destroyed my marriage but also eroded my trust in the church," he said.
The ECG church, which has a significant following in Zimbabwe and across Africa, is yet to issue an official statement regarding the allegations. Prophet Bushiri, known for his charismatic leadership, is widely respected among his followers, making Chiwawa's appeal a high-profile matter.
As the scandal unfolds, the church faces mounting pressure to address the allegations and restore trust among its members. Meanwhile, Chiwawa continues to grapple with the emotional fallout of what he describes as a devastating betrayal.
