The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) has issued a stern reminder to travellers and cross-border traders that it is mandatory to declare all goods at ports of entry. This includes items purchased abroad, personal belongings, and goods intended for commercial purposes.

Failure to declare goods upon entry can lead to serious legal and financial consequences, including heavy fines, seizure of goods, and even imprisonment in severe cases. ZIMRA emphasized that non-declaration is a criminal offence under Zimbabwean law.

Authorities also warned that travellers may be required to present proof of their customs declaration at roadblocks. These roadblocks are part of a post-clearance audit process aimed at ensuring compliance with customs regulations and preventing tax evasion.

Non-declaration of goods, ZIMRA said, also contributes to significant revenue losses for the government, which impacts the nation's economic development.

The revenue authority urged all travellers and cross-border traders to comply with the country's customs rules to avoid penalties and ensure the smooth facilitation of trade.
