PRASA tried to sabotage MK Party's Anniversary event

The Umkhonto weSizwe Party has accused the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA) of failing to fulfill its obligations in a deal worth R1.1 million for the party's anniversary event held on 15 December 2024. The party's spokesperson, Nhlamulo Ndhlela, made the allegations during a video interview with NewzRoom, which was shared on X, a social media platform.
The MK Party was celebrating its one-year anniversary at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban, where the party was officially launched by former president Jacob Zuma at Orlando Stadium in Soweto a year earlier. According to Ndhlela, PRASA was contracted to provide transport for party supporters by arranging for three trains to ferry attendees from key townships, including KwaMashu and Umlazi, to the stadium.
However, Ndhlela claimed that the train services were abruptly cancelled at the last minute, with PRASA citing that they did not operate trains on Sundays.
"This is nothing short of sabotage," Ndhlela said, accusing PRASA of intentionally disrupting the party's celebrations. He expressed frustration over the situation, highlighting the importance of the event for the MK Party and its supporters.
Despite the setbacks, Ndhlela remained optimistic about the party's future. He affirmed that the MK Party would not be deterred by PRASA's actions and vowed to perform strongly in the upcoming 2026 local government elections and ultimately take the country in the 2029 general elections.
"Nothing will stop us from succeeding," he stated, signaling the party's determination to continue its political journey despite the challenges.
PRASA has not yet commented publicly on the allegations.
