The son of prominent academic and political commentator Professor Ibbo Mandaza appeared in court facing allegations of assaulting his ex-wife on Christmas Eve.
Ibbo Mandaza Jr (33) was charged with physical abuse following an incident involving his former wife, Ms. Tyler Rubenstein (37), at his residence in Harare.
According to the State's case, the altercation occurred on December 24, 2024, after Ms. Rubenstein visited Mandaza Jr. to return an iPhone 13 he had previously gifted her. She reportedly discovered the device was second-hand and contained explicit images, prompting her decision to return it.
Ms. Rubenstein allegedly parked outside Mandaza Jr.'s gate and called him to come out. During the exchange, it is claimed that Mandaza Jr. pushed her against the gate and struck her multiple times on the face with open hands.
The incident was reported to Highlands Police Station, leading to Mandaza Jr.'s arrest.
He appeared before Harare Magistrate Amanda Dhlamini, who granted him bail and remanded him out of custody pending further court proceedings.
