Zimbabwe's Minister of Defence, Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri, has traveled to Mozambique to attend the inauguration of President-elect Daniel Chapo. The Minister is representing President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who is currently on his annual leave.

The inauguration, a significant event in Mozambique's political calendar, has drawn several Heads of State and Government from across the continent to celebrate the country's democratic milestone.

Zimbabwe and Mozambique share a deeply rooted relationship, dating back to the liberation struggle when Mozambique provided rear bases for Zimbabwe's freedom fighters. This bond has strengthened over the years through bilateral cooperation in trade, security, and cultural exchange.

President Chapo will become Mozambique's fifth leader since the country attained independence in 1975. His leadership is anticipated to usher in a new chapter of development and regional cooperation.

Muchinguri-Kashiri's attendance underscores Zimbabwe's commitment to regional solidarity and continued collaboration within the Southern African Development Community (SADC).

The event highlights the enduring ties between the two nations and their shared vision for progress and unity in the region.
