WATCH: Mnangagwa surrounded by a lot of criminals
2 hrs ago | Views
Ethan Andreas Mathibela, chairperson of the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association, has raised serious allegations against individuals surrounding President Emmerson Mnangagwa, accusing them of exploiting his tenure for personal gain while ordinary Zimbabweans continue to suffer. Mathibela claims that Mnangagwa is now surrounded by a network of corrupt criminals, including ex-convicts, who have adopted a self-serving mentality of "it's our time to eat."
Speaking to CITE, Mathibela expressed frustration over the worsening economic crisis in Zimbabwe and what he described as the betrayal of the ideals of the liberation struggle. He said the corrupt elements in Mnangagwa's inner circle are focused on personal enrichment rather than addressing the pressing challenges facing the nation.
He further noted that corruption at the highest levels of government has led to a rapid decline in public services, infrastructure, and the economy. Zimbabweans, he said, are bearing the brunt of poor governance while a select few accumulate wealth.
Mathibela's remarks come amid increasing discontent within various sectors of society, including war veterans, who have traditionally been staunch supporters of ZANU-PF and Mnangagwa. Reports of factionalism within the ruling party and growing public anger over the economic crisis have further highlighted divisions within the political landscape.
The government has not yet responded to Mathibela's allegations. However, the accusations add to the growing calls for accountability and transparency as Zimbabwe grapples with an economic crisis marked by hyperinflation, unemployment, and deteriorating public services.
