Chicken Inn considers Barbourfields switch

In a bid to revive their faltering 2025 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) campaign, Chicken Inn head coach Joey Antipas has confirmed that the club is contemplating relocating their home matches from Luveve Stadium to Barbourfields Stadium.

After 12 rounds of action, the Gamecocks have yet to register a single home win, a dismal record that has left the club languishing mid-table with 12 points from two wins, six draws and four losses. Both victories came away from home-against Dynamos and Kwekwe United-raising concerns over the team's struggles at their traditional home ground.

"We're just not taking advantage of playing at home," said Antipas. "So, we have to sit down and see what plan we can come up with. Maybe if we move to Barbourfields Stadium, it might change our fortunes, because we are struggling at Luveve."

The veteran gaffer also indicated the team is looking to bolster its ranks during the upcoming mid-season transfer window, with particular focus on strengthening their attack.

"When the window opens, we'll try to bring in a couple of new faces. Particularly in the striking department-we're not doing well. At times, we rush our passes and hurry everything. We need composure," Antipas noted.

Chicken Inn's poor form at Luveve Stadium has added pressure on the technical team, prompting recent internal changes. Assistant coach Fungai "Tostao" Kwashi has been reassigned to oversee the club's ZIFA Bulawayo Province Division Two side. Kwashi, who arrived last year from CAPS United, was absent from the bench in the team's recent 1-0 defeat to Green Fuel.

Club insiders revealed that Kwashi's new role will focus on nurturing talent at the developmental level, working alongside Nkosana "Sancho" Gumbo and Ben Nyahunzvi, who already coach the club's Under-13, Under-15 and Under-17 squads.

Club secretary-general Tavengwa Hara declined to comment on the reshuffle, stating only that: "The club will soon release a statement regarding any structural adjustments happening across our junior and senior teams."

With only two wins to their name, Chicken Inn face a crucial stretch of fixtures as they seek to turn their season around. Antipas will be hoping for a spark this Friday when the Gamecocks travel to Rufaro Stadium to take on newcomers Scottland.

Fans can catch all the action live on ZTN Prime (DStv Channel 294) this weekend, starting with Chicken Inn's clash against Scottland on Friday.
