The Gweru City Council has taken delivery of four brand-new vehicles valued at approximately US$165,000, marking a significant step toward improving service delivery in the city.

The new fleet includes a 25-seater minibus and three pick-up trucks, all purchased using council funds. The vehicles are expected to boost the efficiency of city operations and positively impact the livelihoods of urban residents.

Gweru Mayor Martin Chivhoko emphasized the importance of the investment, stating that the new vehicles will enhance mobility, increase productivity, and contribute to economic growth.

"I would like to express my gratitude to our ratepayers, staff, and partners for their continued support in this transformation journey," said Mayor Chivhoko.

"These vehicles will improve the delivery of services, enhance transportation and productivity, and play a role in economic development and better living standards for the people of Gweru. As we continue to grow and transform, I look forward to witnessing the positive impact these resources will have on our work and community."

The vehicles were officially handed over by Midlands Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister, Owen Ncube, who commended Gweru City Council for prioritizing the procurement of essential infrastructure and equipment to ensure effective and efficient service delivery.

"I sincerely thank the Gweru City Council for consistently prioritizing the provision of critical infrastructure and acquisition of key equipment such as these vehicles to guarantee quality services for the people of Gweru and the business community," said Minister Ncube.

The vehicle acquisition is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the city's capacity to deliver essential services. Gweru Council has recently made notable progress in rehabilitating agricultural infrastructure, improving water supply, and restoring malfunctioning traffic lights.

Minister Ncube expressed optimism that the new vehicles would enhance service delivery and transform the lives of local residents.

He also took the opportunity to commend Gweru City Council, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), health personnel, local residents, and the Civil Protection Unit for their swift and compassionate response to the recent Hungwe Coaches accident near Fairmile Motel, which claimed five lives.

"Allow me to thank Gweru City Council, ZRP, health workers, the local community, and Civil Protection members for their swift response to the recent Hungwe bus accident near Fairmile Motel. Their efforts helped prevent greater loss of life," said Ncube.
