Ten people miraculously escaped unhurt after a light aircraft crash-landed at Kanyemba Airstrip in Mbire District on Wednesday evening. The aircraft, which was en route from Harare to Kafuko Safaris in Mozambique, made an emergency landing under unclear circumstances, stunning local villagers.
The incident occurred on June 19 and has since drawn attention from both the aviation community and local authorities. Witnesses described the scene as tense but ultimately miraculous, with all passengers walking away from the wreckage without injury.
"The plane was heading towards Kafuko Safaris in Mozambique from Harare when it crash-landed at the airstrip in our area," said Mugonapanja village head, Tengo Mugonapanja, in an interview with ZBC News. "All ten people on board escaped without any injuries. It was a miracle. We were all shocked but relieved."
Eyewitnesses reported that the pilot appeared visibly shaken following the crash. However, no immediate explanation was given as to what caused the emergency landing. The aircraft reportedly sustained physical damage, though the full extent is yet to be officially assessed.
As of Thursday morning, the Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe (CAAZ) had not issued a statement on the incident, and it remains unclear whether mechanical failure, adverse weather, or human error played a role.
Efforts to contact the aircraft's operator or owner were unsuccessful at the time of publication. The type of aircraft involved and the identities of the passengers have also not yet been disclosed.
Kanyemba Airstrip is a small facility primarily used for private and safari-related flights in the remote northern region near the Mozambican border. Local authorities have indicated that a full investigation will be conducted to determine the cause of the crash.
"We'll only know what happened once aviation experts assess the scene," said a local official who requested anonymity.
This latest incident adds to a growing list of aviation concerns in Zimbabwe's remote areas, where infrastructure is often limited and weather conditions unpredictable. However, the survival of all on board without injuries is being hailed as an extraordinary outcome.
