Govt warns of Facebook page advertising bogus Embassy jobs
4 hrs ago | Views

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade has issued a public alert over a fraudulent Facebook page impersonating the Zimbabwe Embassy in Kenya and luring job seekers with fake employment offers.
In a statement released Wednesday, the Ministry said the fake page - created on June 14, 2025, by an unknown individual - falsely claims to be recruiting staff on behalf of the Zimbabwean mission in Nairobi. The scammers behind the operation are reportedly demanding US$375 from applicants for a fictitious "Africa Regional Labour Accreditation Certificate" as part of a non-existent hiring process.
"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade wishes to inform the public that this Facebook page does not belong to the Embassy of Zimbabwe in Kenya, nor does it represent the Government of Zimbabwe in any way," the Ministry clarified.
Authorities have warned that the scam is designed to exploit job-seeking Zimbabweans desperate for foreign opportunities. The Ministry reiterated that recruitment into Zimbabwe's public service is exclusively managed by the Public Service Commission (PSC), and that under no circumstances is any form of payment required during the hiring process.
"Members of the public are advised to note that recruitment into the public service of Zimbabwe is conducted through the Public Service Commission. No money is requested at any stage," the Ministry emphasized.
Zimbabweans were further urged to verify the legitimacy of foreign job offers through official government websites or by directly contacting Zimbabwean embassies abroad.
The Ministry called on citizens to remain vigilant and avoid engaging with online adverts - especially those that request upfront payments - without proper verification.
Investigations into the fraudulent page are reportedly underway, and authorities are exploring legal action to have it taken down and the perpetrators identified.
