Man up for stealing stray bull

A 44-year-old man, Philani Nkomo from Dupute village under Chief Masendu in Madlambuzi area (Plumtree) was slapped with a nine-year jail sentence for stealing a stray bull.
Appearing before Plumtree magistrate Mr Joshua Nembaware this Monday, Nkomo pleaded guilty to the charges whilst the two other accomplices including Wicked Tubhu Ncube (52) of Dupute village (under Chief Masendu in Madlambuzi) and Wisdom Mutarika (40) of Mathendele in Plumtree who is the owner of Mabizela butchery (Ndolwane business centre) pleaded not guilty were remanded in custody to September 17 for trial.
State led by Sheila Nyathi told the court that sometime during the month of April 2024, a branded black bull joined the complainant's herd of cattle, who (complainant) then kept it on behalf of the state as stray stock.
During the month of July, but on an unknown date, the three accused persons connived to steal the stray bull at Dupute pastures in Madlambuzi area. The court further heard that on an unknown date, but during the same month (July 2025), Nkomo and Ncube proceeded to Dupute pastures and drove the stray bull to Ndolwane slaughter house.
Nkomo and Ncube then handed over the beast (stray bull) to Mutarika who then slaughtered it and sold the meat in his butchery. The stolen bull was valued at ZAR10 000 and nothing was recovered.
