Manicaland miners forced to fund Zanu PF conference

Miners in Manicaland have been commandeered to contribute US$3,000 each towards this year's Zanu PF national conference, sparking public outrage over what many view as the ruling party looting state-aligned resources. Critics argue that miners are subject to government taxation — not political party levies.

In a letter dated September 28 and signed by Advocate M. Mugadza (MP), miners were instructed to contribute to the conference.

"We hope this letter finds you well. Following a ZANU PF 22nd National Annual People's Conference fundraising meeting held on the 28th of September 2025, a resolution was passed regarding the upcoming conference. As per the resolution, all miners are required to contribute a minimum of $3,000 USD towards the fundraising efforts for the conference," reads the letter.

"Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter. This contribution is mandatory and aims to support the success of the conference. We kindly request that you arrange for the payment to be made on or before the 2nd of October 2025."

Some concerned citizens have condemned the directive as a usurpation of state functions, arguing that mines are obligated to remit taxes and statutory payments to the government - not to Zanu PF.
