Divisions in War Vets leadership not helping comrades: Matibela

Andrease Ethan Matibela, one of the faction leaders of the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association, has called for unity amid deepening divisions within the organisation's leadership.

"We are gathered here not as individuals with personal ambitions but as custodians of the legacy of our liberation struggle. The blood we shed, the sacrifices we made, and the lives we lost were never for us to be divided by factions or weakened by falsehoods," Matibela said.

He acknowledged the existence of three factions - led by himself, Cephas Ncube, and Elias Marashwa - and urged reconciliation for the sake of veterans, widows, and families who depend on the association.

"I've taken the step to reach out to Ncube and Marashwa. We must find one another again - not for ourselves, but for the thousands who rely on us to be their voice," he said.

Matibela also addressed allegations that he was gifted luxury vehicles and harbours animosity toward Vice President Constantino Chiwenga.

"These claims are fabrications - lies crafted to tarnish my image and oust me from the Chairmanship. There is no evidence, no paper trail, and no truth in these allegations," he said.

He urged fellow veterans to refocus on critical issues such as land ownership, healthcare, pensions, and dignity for those who fought for Zimbabwe's liberation.

"Comrades, our unity is not a matter of choice - it is a matter of survival. Let us rise above pettiness and falsehoods. I remain committed to serving with transparency, accountability, and dedication," Matibela said.

He called on all veterans to recommit to the single association that carries their name and history.
