`The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has refuted claims circulating on social media alleging that prominent businessman Mr Wicknell Chivayo is wanted in connection with fraud and other criminal offences.

In a statement, national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the circulating message was false and misleading, urging the public to be cautious about sharing unverified information.

"It is crucial for the public to exercise caution and refrain from sharing unverified information on social media platforms," said Comm Nyathi.
"False claims can have damaging repercussions, tarnishing the reputation of individuals without merit."

He emphasised that the police remain committed to truth, transparency, and justice, and that any legitimate investigations would be communicated through official channels.

"We stand by our duty to investigate matters thoroughly and provide accurate information to the public," he said.
"Rest assured, any legitimate concerns regarding criminal activities will be addressed with transparency and integrity."

The fake document circulating online claimed that police had gathered evidence linking Mr Chivayo to a series of fraudulent activities allegedly connected to his business dealings.

Authorities have since clarified that the document is fabricated, warning members of the public against creating or spreading false statements that could mislead others and damage reputations.

The ZRP reiterated its call for responsible social media use, reminding citizens that spreading falsehoods is an offence under Zimbabwean law.
