The highly anticipated interface between President Emmerson Mnangagwa and Zanu PF returnees, which had been scheduled for Wednesday, has been postponed to a later date.
The meeting, expected to attract more than 5,000 delegates and 300 invited guests at the Harare International Conference Centre (HICC), was meant to mark a key engagement between the President and thousands of members who have rejoined the ruling party.
Zanu PF Director for Returnees, Blessing Chebundo, confirmed the postponement, citing scheduling conflicts on the President's calendar.
"The Presidential Interface meeting with returnees has been postponed to a later date, depending on the President's calendar. It was supposed to be on Wednesday, November 12, but he has another important engagement," said Chebundo.
He explained that preparations for the event were already complete and that the party was simply awaiting a new date.
"We expected to receive 5,000 focal persons whom you call returnees. These are focal persons in their areas of specialisation; we can't bring all 250,000 plus returnees to one place. We also expected 300 invited guests at the meeting. We hope to meet the President soon, once he finds time to do so. Everything is already in place for the event," he added.
The interface is part of Zanu PF's broader efforts to consolidate unity and re-engage former members who have returned to the party fold in recent months. A new date for the meeting will be announced in due course.
