PLUMTREE - A 25-year-old man from Plumtree has been remanded in custody after allegedly breaking into a woman's bedroom hut and attempting to sexually assault her.
Kholisani Ndlovu appeared before Plumtree magistrate Joshua Nembaware, who remanded him to November 13 on charges of unlawful entry.
According to the state, led by prosecutor Sheila Nyathi, the incident occurred around midnight on November 5. Ndlovu allegedly kicked open the door to Rejoice Mnangagwa's (23) bedroom hut and entered without permission.
Once inside, he reportedly strangled Mnangagwa while demanding sex. The complainant resisted and managed to overpower him. Ndlovu attempted to flee but was apprehended by a vigilant neighbour and handed over to police.
Mnangagwa was treated at a local hospital and reported experiencing neck pain following the attack.
The case has raised concerns over rising incidents of gender-based violence and unlawful entry in rural communities.
