Zanu-PF probes Mashonaland province over funds abuse

Zanu-PF secretary-general Jacob Mudenda has ordered an investigation into allegations of embezzlement and administrative misconduct by senior party officials in Mashonaland West province.
The directive, confirmed in a November 11 memo addressed to provincial chairperson Mary Mliswa, was issued by national party political commissar Munyaradzi Machacha, who said a board of inquiry had been appointed to probe the claims.
The board, chaired by former Primary and Secondary Education minister Lazarus Dokora, has been tasked with investigating alleged theft of party funds, staff incompetence, insubordination, and factional conduct within the province. The inquiry will also examine allegations of verbal abuse and misconduct reportedly involving a Kadoma district coordinator and is expected to trace any similar fraudulent activities across the province. Investigators are also looking into the whereabouts of party vehicles in Kadoma.
Machacha instructed the board to begin work on November 12, with findings and recommendations due to his office by November 14.
"The party secretary-general, Jacob Mudenda, has appointed the board to investigate allegations of embezzlement of party funds and staff incompetence in Mashonaland West province. Your co-operation at all times is highly appreciated," read the letter.
The probe comes amid rising factional tensions in the province linked to President Emmerson Mnangagwa's succession, particularly following Zanu-PF's resolution at its annual conference to extend Mnangagwa's term by two years to 2030. Sources within the party allege that the inquiry may also target underground resistance to the 2030 agenda from both grassroots structures and senior officials in Mashonaland West.
Machacha could not be reached to confirm whether the probe's findings had been received by the party last week.
The investigation underscores ongoing concerns over governance and accountability within Zanu-PF's provincial structures, highlighting internal divisions as the party navigates the politically sensitive succession issue.
