GURUVE - A prominent illegal miner, Ben Nyakuruvimba, has been laid to rest after being fatally assaulted with a machete by colleagues in Guruve last week.
Witnesses said the assailants are yet to be identified.
Contacted for comment, Mashonaland Central acting police spokesperson Lucy Chigwenhese said the case had not yet been formally received.
"We are yet to receive the case, but I am assuring you that as soon as we get the case we will give it to you," she said.
Residents in Guruve expressed growing concern over rising violence linked to illegal gold mining, with many machete‑related cases reportedly going unreported.
"We are now living in fear of illegal gold miners who are assaulting people with machetes, injuring and killing people in our Guruve area," said local resident Sarudzai Majuba.
Police investigations are expected to continue once the case is officially lodged.
