Woman found hanging after discussing Harare murder

Police in Masvingo are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 32-year-old woman, Oripa Chideya, who was found deceased at her grandparents' farm in Nyazvidzi, Gutu, on January 21, 2026.
Masvingo Deputy Police Spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Masauso Patinyu, confirmed the incident. He said Chideya had visited her grandparents a day earlier to see her ailing grandfather.
According to police, Chideya was overheard speaking with her sister on the phone about a murder case that had occurred in Harare. When her grandmother, Fellistas Chadyemhunga, asked her about the conversation, Chideya reportedly indicated that she intended to return to Harare to follow up on the matter.
Later, the grandmother discovered Chideya's body at the farm and immediately alerted the police. The body was subsequently taken to Gutu Mission Hospital, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted.
"We are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Oripa Chideya," Assistant Inspector Patinyu said.
Police said further details will be released once investigations are complete.
