Legislators aligned to the Sengezo Tshabangu‑led Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) have endorsed the Zanu‑PF‑sponsored constitutional amendments that seek to extend President Emmerson Mnangagwa's term to 2030, saying the proposed reforms are "in good faith".

According to minutes of a meeting held on 12 February 2026 in Harare, and signed by the faction's spokesperson Charles Moyo, 63 members attended the caucus and resolved to support Constitutional Amendment No. 3 Bill of 2026.

"On Tuesday 10 February 2026, the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe Cde E.D. Mnangagwa convened the first Cabinet meeting of 2026," the minutes read.

"Among other issues, Cabinet resolved to initiate far‑reaching amendments to the Constitution as contained in Constitutional Amendment No. 3 Bill, 2026."

The caucus noted that the Bill contains clauses altering the life of Parliament, the term of office of the President, and the management of elections.

"Following this momentous decision, which has significant implications for Zimbabwe's constitutional democracy… the Citizens Coalition for Change convened an urgent meeting of its Party Parliamentary Caucus and resolved as follows: While we await the full and final text of the Bill, in principle, we support the spirit, intent and motivation of the Bill," the minutes state.

According to the document, the MPs believe the Bill "correctly captures changes necessary for building national consensus, healing divisions of the past, and establishing a basis for permanent political and economic stability".

The caucus also welcomed the proposed electoral reforms, saying they address "institutional and legitimacy issues which have perennially affected our electoral democracy".

The minutes further state that the amendments relating to the election of the President and the executive authority of government should be accompanied by the formation of a "Government of National Consensus", incorporating churches, youth, business and women's organisations.

The MPs were instructed to return to their constituencies and convene ward‑level meetings through councillors to explain the contents of Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3 of 2026.

They were also directed to gather "free and voluntary opinions" from citizens and submit written reports to the Interim Secretary‑General by 1 March 2026. Senators were told to work with National Assembly members in implementing the resolutions.

The minutes emphasised discipline, tolerance and nation‑building during the outreach process.

"In conclusion, all CCC Party MPs are raring to go. No amount of negativity from our erstwhile nemesis can stop the people's parliamentary representatives from diligently exercising their mandate," the document reads.
