A security investigation has reportedly been launched following the leak of Justice Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi's travel itinerary during his recent visit to Nairobi, Kenya, where he was attending consultations related to Zimbabwe's ongoing constitutional reform process.

The fallout comes after former Cabinet minister and MP Jonathan Moyo posted on X (formerly Twitter), alleging that the leak originated from a "respected VVIP at a respected state intelligence institution."

Ziyambi was in Nairobi from Friday to Sunday. After details of his itinerary surfaced on social media - later confirmed as authentic by The NewsHawks, albeit with minor changes to his return flight — tensions reportedly escalated within security circles.

According to sources, intelligence agents have since initiated an internal probe to establish the identity of the alleged "VVIP" within the security establishment and to determine their role and possible motive. The investigation is said to be grounded in provisions of the Official Secrets Act, as well as internal codes of conduct governing intelligence and security personnel.

Security services officers - including those in public intelligence, the police, military intelligence and private security — are bound by strict legal and professional obligations concerning confidentiality and handling of sensitive information.

Sources indicate that the inquiry could have repercussions within both military intelligence structures and the Central Intelligence Organisation, with at least two individuals reportedly under scrutiny — one from military intelligence ranks and another linked to civilian intelligence.

In his lengthy X post, Moyo dismissed what he described as a fabricated narrative allegedly peddled as "hot intelligence" by social media actors. He suggested that a senior intelligence official had abused their position to circulate a "foolish story" relating to the Constitutional Amendment Bill.

"SUNDAY REFLECTION: It beggars belief that a respected VVIP at a respected state intelligence institution would be so reckless to abuse their position and fabricate a foolish story; and package it for peddling by social media desperados as ‘hot intelligence' from a VVIP source…," Moyo wrote.

He further ridiculed claims that an allegedly self-exiled individual had been secretly smuggled into Zimbabwe to influence a "crumbling" Constitutional Amendment Bill, insisting that the legislative process had been conducted transparently.

Moyo pointed out that the Bill had been approved by the Cabinet Committee on Legislation, subsequently endorsed by Cabinet, and gazetted by the Speaker of the National Assembly, adding that it remains open for public debate and parliamentary scrutiny in line with constitutional requirements.

"Of course, anything is possible under the sun; but this desperation is insane!" he concluded.

The developments underscore heightened sensitivities within political and security circles as debate intensifies over proposed constitutional changes and internal party dynamics.
