A 53-year-old Bulawayo man, Timothy John Schultz, is facing serious legal trouble after being accused of orchestrating an extensive stock theft operation involving more than 400 cattle valued at US$477,000.

Schultz appeared before Plumtree regional magistrate Dambudzo Malunga, where he chose to remain silent when asked to plead. The matter has been postponed to 13 April.

According to court proceedings, the accused allegedly used a consistent scheme over several months, convincing a farm security officer at Maphaneni Ranch in Kezi that he had authority to move and sell cattle on behalf of the farm's director to raise funds for workers' salaries. Acting on these representations, large numbers of cattle were handed over to him in multiple batches between August 2024 and April 2025.

The cumulative losses reportedly exceeded 400 cattle, with the complainant only discovering the scale of the alleged theft when conducting a routine check and later verifying with the security officer. The matter was reported to police, leading to Schultz's arrest.

In a separate case, Schultz also appeared before Bulawayo provincial magistrate Isheunesu Mathoba, facing charges related to the alleged theft of company shares valued at US$15,000. He has pleaded not guilty to those charges.

The prosecution, represented by Joseph Rugara, alleged that Schultz unlawfully transferred shares belonging to another party to himself in a business entity, effectively reallocating ownership without consent.

The two matters highlight a pattern of alleged financial and property-related offences spanning both agricultural and corporate sectors, with courts now tasked with determining the extent of criminal liability and the recovery of losses, where possible.
