BULAWAYO - Commuters in Zimbabwe’s second city woke to an unexpected sight on Monday morning after protest flyers were found plastered across major areas of Bulawayo, from Five Avenue to the base of the Joshua Nkomo statue in the city centre.

The flyers, distributed overnight, signal rising public frustration with President Emmerson Mnangagwa and the Zanu PF government. Written in bold print, they call on “progressives” to unite and “fight Zanu PF head on”, listing demands centred on economic relief and social services. These include jobs and fair wages, access to quality healthcare and affordable education.

Beyond economic concerns, the flyers also press for constitutional reform. A central demand is the “full separation of the judiciary, parliament, and the executive”, a call aimed at curbing executive overreach and strengthening institutional independence.

The messaging ends with a pointed political line: “CAB 3 IS NOT A DONE DEAL!!!” — a reference to Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3 (CAB3), which has drawn criticism from civil society organisations and legal commentators. The authors warn that without action on their demands, a series of “radical actions” will follow.

By mid‑morning, the flyers were visible on lamp posts, shop walls and bus termini around Five Avenue. Vendors, students and workers stopped to read them, with small groups gathering near the Joshua Nkomo statue to discuss the message and speculate about the organisers.

The city‑wide visibility underscores a growing mood of discontent in Bulawayo, a city long regarded as a centre of opposition politics and civic activism. As of late morning, there were no reports of arrests or police disruption.

It remains unclear which group was responsible for the distribution, though the incident has added to ongoing public debate around CAB3 resistance and urban political mobilisation.
