Vice President Kembo Mohadi is representing President Emmerson Mnangagwa at the memorial service of former Botswana President Festus Mogae currently taking place at the University of Botswana main auditorium in Gaborone.

Botswana President Duma Boko is also attending the ceremony alongside representatives from several countries who gathered to honour the late statesman.

Mogae, who served as Botswana's president from 1998 to 2008, was widely recognised for his leadership in promoting economic development and spearheading HIV and AIDS programmes that benefited millions across Africa.

The memorial proceedings began this morning ahead of his burial scheduled for Saturday at Phomolong Memorial Park in Gaborone.

Tributes continue to pour in across the region, with leaders describing Mogae as a respected African statesman whose leadership helped position Botswana as one of the continent's most stable economies.
