Among the graduands were female officer
cadets.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mugabe challenged young
women to join the Zimbabwe Defence Forces and urged those already in the
military to assume key command responsibilities within the defence forces.
He said Zimbabwe will continue to champion
the cause of gender equality in all spheres of political economic and social development.
The Regular Officer Cadet Number 03/27/09 is the
first course to offer a Diploma in Military Education.
The development is a result of an alliance between
the Zimbabwe Military
Academy and the Midlands State
University.
President Mugabe said partnerships of this nature
are commendable as they add value to the quality of graduands from military
training institutions.
"I commend the Midlands State University for
granting associate status to the Zimbabwe Military Academy and we hope this
partnership will continue to blossom," he said.
The Regular Officer Course is the 27th course to
graduate at the college since its establishment in 1980.
