Deputy Prime Minister and MDC Vice President Thokozani Khupe says the MDC remains the only party in Zimbabwe set to usher a democratic dispensation hinged on the creation of jobs, equality of opportunities and promotion of investment in the country.
Khupe said this while addressing over two thousand MDC members gathered at Pumula Hall in Bulawayo. She said the MDC is a God fearing party that will usher a new Zimbabwe built on trust and commitment to the needs of every Zimbabwean.
"We implore on God to fight against those who fight against the MDC. Our party is resolute on bringing decent work and salaries to Zimbabweans. We have promised you a million jobs and this is what we are going to achieve," Khupe said.
She urged MDC supporters to register to vote overwhelmingly in the forthcoming elections saying the MDC government is the only government which must be trusted as Zanu-PF had failed the country.
"You are aware that the people used to enjoy their bonuses every year. The quality of life had improved significantly after independence. However, the corrupt Zanu-PF syndrome ate into each and every household leading to untold suffering of every Zimbabwean," she added.
Also in attendance was the MDC National Chairperson Hon Lovemore Moyo who said MDC members should not lose focus on removing the dictatorship of Robert Mugabe.
"We have to remove Robert Mugabe and put President Morgan Tsvangirai. We have not reached this destination. Although we are on the right path as set out at our congress let us not lose sight on removing the source of all our problems. Zanu-PF has to go this time," Hon Moyo said.
Hon Moyo said as the party moves towards primary elections candidates must be able to unite before and after the elections.
"Yes we have aspiring candidates. It is legitimate to be an aspiring candidate. What the party will not support is any behavior which is outside the MDC constitution. We are aware of the serious jostling for posts in the province. What we hope for is that people unite before and after elections so that the goal of removing Zanu-PF becomes a reality," Hon Moyo added.
Moyo urged MDC members to campaign peacefully so that people can see the difference between Zanu-PF and the MDC. He urged members not to lose steam as the coming elections are set to define the course and direction of the country.
The Deputy National Organiser Hon Abednigo Bhebhe urged all party structures to register to vote and spread the gospel of the MDC to all people in Bulawayo. Hon Bhebhe said all MDC structures could win the election.
Hon Albert Mhlanga, the MP for Pumula also said the MDC remains popular in the constituency due to party programmes that have enriched people’s lives. He urged all present to register to vote in the coming elections. The meeting was organised by Mhlanga as feedback on Parliamentary business and report back on the state of the party.
