A former student activist who claim to be the first Zimbabwe National Students' Union (ZINASU) Sports President during his stint as a student activist has urged Nelsom Chamisa to stop peddling falsehoods that he is a founder member of ZINASU.
This comes after ZINASU demanded that the opposition MDC-T stops interfering in its affairs and blasted the party's organising secretary, Nelson Chamisa, for allegedly causing havoc in the organisation.
In 1999 Chamisa was part of the None Academic Bachelors Association, Harare Poly branch (NABA) and a look at Chamisa's bibliography shows that became active in student politics and leadership the SRC president Harare poly during the 1998-2000 academic year and was elected Secretary General of ZINASU at a congress held at the University of Zimbabwe in 1999-2000.
However, Chamisa said it was in the interest of his party to ensure that the voice of students was not stifled.
"Are you aware that I am one of the founding members of ZINASU," he said.
"I founded (the organisation) together with luminaries like (the late) Learnmore Jongwe, Daniel Moyochena and Job Sikhala we founded ZINASU and led it to the best of our ability. Why would we want to destroy that which we helped found?"
Chamisa's comments did not go well with one of the ZINASU founder members who said, "Chamisa should stop peddling falsehoods. He was never part of the founders of ZINASU. I am the first ZINASU Sports President during my stint as a student activist in Bulawayo and the likes of Hopewell Gumbo, Larnmore Jongwe, Oliver Mutyambizi, Trevor, Dumisani, Chalton Hwende were the founders of ZINASU.
"This was in the year 1996/7 there about and Chamisa was studying for secretarial certificate at Harare Polytechnic. He was not in the limelight and as I know from Chalton, aiva probably a committee member at the Harare Polytechnic but not even a top SRC hierarchy."
