A Harare man who was on the police wanted list for killing his wife has been found hanging from a tree in his rural home of Gokwe.
Lewis Matanda (45) of 101 off Fraser Road, Park Town in Waterfalls, left a suicide note confessing his hand in the murder of his wife Isabel Masuka on April 19.
Matanda left Harare headed for Washaya Village, Chief Gumunyu in Gokwe on April 23, reportedly to visit his brother.
He slept overnight and in the morning he left his car parked outside and his brother is said to have thought he was going to nearby shops to get some fuel.
Matanda had indicated that his vehicle was low on fuel.
After some time, his brother realised that it was getting late and he had not returned and went to check on the security of the car.
On inspecting the car he saw a note on the driver's seat and read it.
In the note, Matanda said he had decided to take his life as the thought of killing his wife was haunting him.
Acting Mashonaland West police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Ian Kohwera confirmed the development adding that preliminary investigations established that Matanda was wanted by police in Harare in connection with the murder of his wife Isabel.
"We can confirm the death of Lewis Matanda who was found hanging from a tree in Siakobvu. He was wanted in connection with the murder of his wife Isabel Masuka on April 19," he said.
After the brother found the note he went to look for him but could not find.
He later, found his body hanging from a tree branch about 400 metres from the house.
A report was made at police Siakobvu and during investigations it was established that Matanda was a wanted man in Harare over the murder of his wife CR275/04/14.
In the note, Matanda said there was no reason for him to live as God's commandments were against killing saying he would not bear judgement on earth and in the hereafter.
