A MARRIED Bulawayo man allegedly bashed a "prostitute" and sank his teeth into her cheek, enraged because the woman denied him sex after he had bought her opaque beer.

Gift Chingoriyo, 27, had just completed serving a community service sentence for assault. He ran wild at Mabuthweni beer hall on Wednesday accusing Liznet Ndlovu, 19, of guzzling his $3 worth of beer and failing to pay him in kind.

Chingoriyo pleaded not guilty to assault charges when he appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Themba Chimiso. He was remanded in custody to October 1 for trial.

Prosecuting, Mitchelle Chiboiwa said Chingoriyo assaulted Ndlovu for denying him sex.

"Chingoriyo head-butted Ndlovu on the face, bit her on her right cheek, slapped her several times and tripped her. He then dragged her to the ground. Ndlovu sustained visible injuries and a medical report can be produced as evidence," she said.

The court heard that on Wednesday, at a beer hall in Mabuthweni, Chingoriyo bought three one litre Chibuku opaque beers for Ndlovu.

He then asked her to have sex with him but she refused.

Chingoriyo accused Ndlovu of squandering his money and refusing to have sex with him. He then assaulted her and during the assault, Ndlovu lost her Nokia X2 mobile phone.

Chingoriyo told the court that he beat up Ndlovu in self defence.

"I admit that I assaulted Ndlovu but it was in self defence. She grabbed my privates and bit me. It was so painful that I retaliated. I asked her to come with me but we had not discussed sex.

"We went to another beer hall far from my home because I did not want my wife to see me with her," he said.
